Organisation of Bacterial Genome
- Genome is a complete set of gene in an organism. When we talk about bacterial genome, it is complete set of gene of bacteria or prokaryotes present. Bacterial genome is composed of circular DNA either single stranded or double stranded. Unlike eukaryotes, they reproduce by fission.
How do we know bacterial DNA is circular or linear?
- DNA is taken and prepared for Pulsed Filed Gel Electrophoresis. If the band moves at faster rate then it’s linear and if it moves slower then it’s circular.
What is Pulsed Field Gel Electrophoresis?
- It is an advanced form of agarose gel electrophoresis where larger fragments of DNA are used to align and separate by changing the direction continously with time.
